Fund a Scholarship

The Young Women's University Scholarship Program (“Bourse Jackie”) is a competitive scholarship program, administered by Caravan to Class for female high school graduates in Timbuktu to attend university in Bamako, Mali for fours years. In order to be granted a “Bourse Jackie” the female student must demonstrate academic excellence, financial need, female leadership potential, and other attributes of the namesake of the scholarship (Jackie) including kindness and compassion. The scholarship will fund all of the costs of university including tuition fees, books, lodging, food, transportation for one year. However it is our intention to provide funding for this scholarship for four years subject to the recipient meeting ongoing standards of the scholarship including academic performance and leadership potential. The full cost of a scholarship for one female student per year is $4,000 which includes an intensive English language study abroad in Accra, Ghana (SEE VIDEO of results of this program).

Donate to help fund our latest construction project

Our construction project for 2021 is in the village of Takaigrout, Mali.

About the Takaigrout school project:

Caravan to Class will build our 16th school in the village of Takaigrout and provide operational support for three years. Operational support will include paying teachers’ salaries, providing basic nutrition for school lunches, and school supplies. In addition, Caravan to Class will provide school uniforms to all children and also implement our award-winning Female Adult Literacy program. The school will follow Malian standard instruction in French. The Timbuktu Ministry of Education will send a director, at their expense, to run the school and certify teachers for class instruction.

When finished, the school itself will be a 3-classroom school made of cement. The village will provide voluntary unskilled labor and construction will be managed by a certified contractor with whom Caravan to Class has been working since 2010. The school will be equipped with metal doors and windows, chalkboards, desks and chairs. The cost, including operational support, is $45,177 and will be completed by March of 2022.

To learn more about the village of Takaigrout, please see the announcement at THIS LINK.

Fund School Operations

Caravan to Class builds schools in carefully selected villages around the fabled Timbuktu, Mali. Since 2010, we have built and supported 12 schools. When Caravan to Class builds a school we agree to support the operations of the school for three years to give that school the best chance of success. Caravan to Class is currently supporting the operations of 9 schools in rural villages around Timbuktu, paying for teachers’ salaries and providing both supplementary food and school supplies. Please consider making a donation* to Caravan to Class to fund the operations of these schools by using the link below.
