Brian Joseph

image of Brian Joseph Brian Joseph graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Economics at Harvard College. Since 2009, he has been a partner at Empyrean Capital, an event-driven hedge fund headquartered in Los Angeles. He focuses on credit and equities with a specialization in esoteric situations. He has also served on multiple corporate boards. Mr. Joseph's passion is alleviating food scarcity for children, and advancing education in the developing world—working with multiple schools and organizations in North Carolina and California.

Charles E. Jobson

image of Charles E. Jobson Mr. Jobson holds an undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and an MBA with a concentration in finance from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. He is currently CEO of Thrive Acquisition, a special purpose acquisition company traded on the NASDAQ seeking an acquisition in the health and wellness area. He has investment experience in the hedge fund and private equity areas. Mr. Jobson co-founded and ran Delta Partners, a long-short hedge fund from 1999-2019, reaching a peak asset level of $2.9 billion. Prior to launching Delta, Mr. Jobson was a Vice President and a member of an eight-person investment committee managing a $3.5 billion U.S. equity portfolio at Baring Asset Management, an international investment firm, from 1994 to 1998. Mr. Jobson is a member of the CFA Institute and the Boston Securities Analysts Society. He is passionate about building like-minded communities of people interested in female empowerment and education.

Doussouba Konate

image of Doussouba KonateMs. Konate graduated with a Master’s Degree in International Studies from the University of Montreal, and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Universite de Sherbrooke in Canada. After many years of working in both France and Canada, she decided to return to Mali in order to be closer to family and also contribute to the development of her country. She current works for Accountability Lab Mali as its Head of Monitoring and Evaluation. She has also worked for Save the Children, UNICEF and Free the Children. Ms. Konate has traveled extensively in the developing world for her work in children’s rights, both giving and facilitating lectures. She was also recently selected as one of only thirty-six as an Obama Foundation Young African Leaders fellow. Ms. Konate also currently serves as Advisor to our Bourse Jackie University Scholarship program.

Cynthia Schnieder

image of Cynthia SchniederAmbassador Cynthia P. Schneider, PhD teaches, publishes, and speaks about the importance of culture in diplomacy and international affairs. Ambassador Schneider is a Distinguished Professor at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, focusing on humanizing global politics through the power of artistic performance. Dr. Schneider also co-directs the Timbuktu Renaissance, a Mali-based platform for countering extremism, and building peace and sustainable development through a focus on culture. She has also served as US Ambassador to the Netherlands (1998-2001) where she led initiatives in public and cultural diplomacy, biotechnology and cyber security and was awarded the Pentagon’s Exceptional Public Service Award. Prof. Schneider has published content on current issues in numerous popular and policy outlets (USA Today, Los Angeles Times, CNN, Foreign Policy, Business Insider, Huffington Post), and has spoken around the world on topics involving foreign policy, and politics and culture, including at TED. Her current book (in progress) is Culture Matters: Re-Imagining Diplomacy.

Laila Tarraf

image of Laila TarrafLaila Tarraf is a Lebanese-born senior human resource executive with over 25 years of professional experience. After graduating with her MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley, she became one of the founding team members at She then served as Chief People Officer at Peet’s Coffee and Tea, an iconic Bay Area premium coffee company. Currently, Laila was most recently the Chief People Officer at Allbirds, a sustainable footwear and apparel brand. She is also a trusted advisor to entrepreneurs and investors, and is a guest lecturer at Berkeley Law School. Ms. Tarraf is also an “HR Superstar” and the distinguished author of Strong Like Water.

Anjana Utarid

image of Anjana UtaridMs. Utarid is Executive Director of WomenServe, a nonprofit for women that unlocks the potential of women and girls in Western Rajastan, India, and in the USA. Anjana has published two children’s books, and on her time off, enjoys cooking, hiking, spending time with her daughter and extended family, and cultivating her flora and vegetable gardens. Ms Utarid is passionate about women’s causes globally.

Jackie Hoffner

image of Jackie Hoffner Jackie received her Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California at Irvine, and worked in research at U.C. Irvine and the University of Washington. She raised her two children while living in England, Russia and the United States and was co-owner of Silverwood Ranch in Sonoma County, California.

Jackie was on the Advisory Team for the Alexander Valley Film Society, and also volunteered for WildAid, an organization that works to end the illegal wildlife trade.
