NEWS RELEASE – For Immediate Release

Caravan to Class Director Barry Hoffner announces Caravan to Class' participation in's Winter Challange this holiday season

Sausalito, CA - (November 9, 2011)

Caravan to Class approved to participate in the Winter GlobalGiving Challenge

Caravan to Class will compete in the Global Giving (the leading online charitable giving site) Challenge from November 23 – December 31, 2011. If Caravan to Class is successful in raising $4,000 and adding 50 donors (with a minimum donation of $10) during the challange period, “We will both be able to post all of our future charitable projects on the Global Giving website and be eligible for additional foundation grants” says Barry Hoffner, Executive Director of Caravan to Class.

Hoffner hopes that the funds raised through the Global Giving challenge will augment Caravan to Class’ fundraising for its second school project in the village of Mora, Mali. He adds, “We are grateful to the Lefkofsky Foundation for providing anchor funding for our Mora school project.” The Mora school project will build a new 3-classroom school building, hire accredited teachers, and provide basic nutrition at the school, Caravan to Class’ three pillars to increasing literacy rates in some of the world’s most illiterate villages. “Being on the Global Giving platform gives Caravan to Class a stamp of credibility given the extensive due diligence done by Global Giving to be accepted into their Challenge program,” says Hoffner.

Caravan to Class began its first school in the nearby village of Tedeini, outside of Timbuktu, Mali in September 2010 (link for Tedeini school). Now, Caravan to Class is beginning its second school project in the village of Mora and is raising funds though the Global Giving "Challenge."

Hoffner asks donors to consider supporting this project, “A $10 donation can make a big difference in the lives of these deserving children.” To make a donation or for more information, please go to Caravan to Class’ page on the Global Giving website at

Caravan to Class is a registered 501c3 which seeks to bring education to villages in Mali and across Africa, one village at a time, by engaging diverse communities of supporters.
