Web page icon from the Marin Brandeis Hillel Day School The Brandeis Hillel Day School of Marin County, California raised $2,000 for Caravan to Class through their school's recent Read-a-thon fundraising project. Students selected Caravan to Class as one of two charities that they would support through the event.

Brandeis Hillel Day School has sharpened its focus on Tikun Olam (“Repairing the World”) and valued the opportunity to make a material donation to a project that could see come to fruition within a short amount of time. In addition, the students learned, through a presentation by Caravan to Class, about both illiteracy in Africa and Timbuktu, Mali.

Barry Hoffner, the Executive Director of Caravan to Class, reported that, “While the focus of Caravan to Class is to make a significant impact on the literacy rates in the villages where we operate. However, an important secondary goal is to both educate students in North America about literacy challenges in Africa, and inspire them to take an active role in working for social justice. The students of Brandeis Hillel Day School rose to the occasion.”
